Week 27

So,

Week 27

Week 27 was pretty quiet.

We travelled home from Woolfest on Sunday, it was a bit of a nightmare really – the traffic was terrible and it took about 10 hours from Cumbria to Romsey!

We were all shattered once we got here.

I ended up sitting up until about 3am nattering with Claire and Alex, which was stupid as I had a doctors appointment at 850am the following morning.

I made the appointment about 3 weeks ago and I was so glad that I did.

Basically, I made it because the Plantar Fasciitis was killing me! I felt so pathetic, but I was in agony! It had got to the point where I could barely walk and my speed was right down; elderly people overtook me with ease.

Going to Woolfest made things SO much worse!

After spending the day there on Friday, I felt dreadful – the backs of my knees felt like they were going to explode and I was getting spasms and shooting pains up as far as my hips.

I went to the doctor and saw a nice older lady doctor, I sat down and she asked what she could do for me. I just looked at her, I knew that if I opened my mouth I was going to lose it.

She got this sympathetic look on her face and said; “This is about your feet, isn’t it?”

I started to cry and she listened – even though I had arrived late and she had a queue of people. She listened and she didn’t hurry me.

She was annoyed that the last doctor I had seen had only given me paracetamol for two days and ibuprofen for eight, so she gave me about 84 diclofenac and a whole box of dihydrocodeine with strict instructions to take the diclofenac 3 times a day with a cocodamol and then at night, to take a dihydrocodeine instead of the cocodamol for at least a week!

I was also told to rest, do these stretches and to fill a bottle with water, place in the freezer and several times a day to roll the bottle under my feet.

The first couple of times I rolled the bottle; I felt nauseous – the pain was so immense!

She said that as well as the Plantar Fasciitis, I also had tendinitis in both Achilles tendons and in the hamstrings in the backs of both knees! So, my legs are inflamed from about mid-thigh downwards!

I didn’t work all week until Saturday and I didn’t have to do much else until Thursday so I did as I was told and rested as much as possible!

It did help and on Thursday, I went to Eastleigh to do some grocery shopping and attend a Work Focused Interview for my Employment Support Allowance. I also went to Stitch & Bitch in Southampton that evening, but I must’ve looked dreadful as Jane insisted I’d be getting a lift home later instead of catching the bus LOL

I worked Saturday, all day and I could’ve really done without that – I was in a lot of pain by the end of the day, despite two doses of diclofenac, one cocodamol and two paracetamol throughout the day.

I’m not working now until next Saturday and I know that’s going to be busy as it’s the Beggars Fair.  I have no idea what it’s like, but last year it was absolutely heaving, apparently!

For the past two weeks I’ve been working on Color Affection and it’s nearly finished, I hoped to have it finished by the end of Wimbledon, but couldn’t quite manage it.

I’ve also been doing a few hours of spinning every evening – I’ve done about 70g in the past two weeks.

It’s been very frustrating actually; my elbows have been playing me up again, which has been affecting my knitting and the tendinitis gets worse when I spin too much and sets off the spasms and pains. I’m feeling very grumpy about the whole thing and wondering if I shouldn’t blow my DLA back pay on getting the Hansen miniSpinner now, even though I’ve got someone who’s going to bring me one back after Rhinebeck.

If I wait until after Rhinebeck, I won’t have to pay any fees on it.  If I order now, I’ll have it in a fortnight, but it’ll cost me about £130 extra.

Sensibly, I should wait….but I want to SPIN!!!

I’m still in a lot of pain, but I don’t hobble chronically when I first stand as I was doing a week ago and I can walk short distances again – but it’s still causing pain so I’m still taking the diclofenac at least twice a day to keep the inflammation down as much as possible!

I probably will wait because I’m a skinflint and I hate wasting money, but I shall moan every time spinning hurts me :(
